Instagram To Remove Fake Likes & Followers

Last week Instagram (owned by Facebook), announced that in a continuing effort to reduce "inauthentic" (fake) activity on the platform, they would begin removing fake likes and followers from the hugely popular social platform. They believe that this will allow for a more genuine Instagram experience, and intend for the move to mostly affect those who have bought followers and likes.

Machine Learning To Identify Fakes

According to their announcement, they will be using machine learning algorithms to identify accounts that buy followers, likes or comments, and remove the activity. However, accounts which do so will apparently not face any action, but will receive a message asking them to change their password to prevent further 3rd party app interference. In the announcement, the company said, “Accounts we identify using these services will receive an in-app message alerting them that we have removed the inauthentic likes, follows and comments given by their account to others.” However, accounts which continue to purchase likes and followers may have further action taken against them.
