12 principles · Facebook & Instagram

Our Meta advertising philosophy.

We follow a practical, data-driven approach to Facebook and Instagram advertising built around your business outcomes, good creative, useful data and how people actually behave.

Core philosophy

Optimise for outcomes, not activity.

Give Meta good signals. Give people good reasons. Measure what happens next.

The series

Twelve principles, in order.

  1. 01

Choose the Business Outcome Before the Campaign Objective

Start with what the business needs to achieve, then tell Meta to optimise for that result.

  2. 02

    Target People, Not Just Interests

Use audience targeting to guide Meta towards the right market, not to describe the perfect customer on paper.

  3. 03

First-Party Data Is Your Strongest Audience Signal

Use what your customers actually do to help Meta understand who matters to the business.

  4. 04

Use More Placements. Then Design for Them Properly.

Give Meta room to find efficient inventory, but make sure the ad belongs wherever it appears.

  5. 05

Creative Is Not Decoration. It Is Delivery.

The audience can only respond to what they see, so creative is a performance decision.

  6. 06

Budget for Learning Before You Budget for Scale

Give a campaign enough money to produce useful information before expecting it to produce predictable growth.

  7. 07

Bid for Value, Not Cheap Results

Choose a bidding approach that supports the economics of the business, not simply the lowest visible cost.

  8. 08

Meta Lead Generation Is About Lead Quality, Not Lead Volume

A form submission is only valuable when it has a reasonable chance of becoming a customer.

  9. 09

Meta Ecommerce Advertising Needs More Than a Product Catalogue

Connect products, creative, customer intent and commercial data so the campaign can optimise towards valuable sales.

Meta Pixel and Conversions API: Tracking Is Part of the Campaign

Meta cannot optimise reliably towards a business result it cannot reliably observe.

Meta Ads Optimisation Is a Process, Not a Panic Button

Change campaigns because the data points to a problem, not because yesterday's results made you nervous.

Measure Meta Ads by the Business Result That Matters

Use platform metrics to understand performance, but judge the campaign by what the business actually gained.

    Read principle

Clicks are easy to count. Business results are what matter.

Meta advertising gives businesses access to an enormous audience across Facebook and Instagram, combined with sophisticated machine learning, targeting, creative formats and conversion technology.

That does not mean simply switching campaigns on and allowing the platform to make every decision. In fact, it means the exact opposite.

At Net Age, our approach is to give Meta the right objective, the right signals, enough freedom to learn and advertising that gives people a genuine reason to respond.

Meta advertising works as a system

There is no single targeting trick, campaign setting or creative format that makes Meta advertising work.

The objective influences who Meta looks for. The audience gives it boundaries and signals. Creative earns attention. The offer gives people a reason to act. The landing page or lead form affects whether that action becomes a conversion. Tracking sends information back into the advertising system. Budget and bidding influence how aggressively Meta can pursue the result.

These parts need to support one another.

A beautifully designed ad cannot fix a weak offer. Detailed targeting cannot compensate for poor tracking. A low cost per lead means very little if the sales team cannot turn those leads into business.

That is why we prefer to judge Meta campaigns by the result the business actually wanted.

Automation needs good inputs

Meta advertising has become increasingly automated.

We see that as useful.

Machine learning can process more auctions, behaviour signals and delivery opportunities than a person could manage manually. But automation still depends on the information it receives.

Our job is therefore not to fight the algorithm for control of every impression. It is to create the conditions in which it can make better decisions.

That means defining success properly, supplying useful data, developing strong creative, choosing sensible constraints and thoroughly measuring what happens after the click or lead.

This is how we approach Meta Ads

We do not optimise campaigns simply to make advertising metrics look better.

We use those metrics to understand what is happening, ask better questions and improve the path from advertising spend to business result.

Give Meta good signals. Give people good reasons. Measure what happens next.

This is how we run every Facebook and Instagram account.
