A Meta campaign can appear across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Audience Network, in environments that include feeds, Stories, Reels and other placements.

Those environments are not interchangeable.

A square image that looks fine in Feed may feel awkward in a vertical Reel. A long opening sentence can disappear below the fold. Text positioned near the edge of a video can be covered by interface elements. An ad can technically fit a placement without being well designed for it.

Placement strategy therefore has two parts: delivery and creative.

More eligible placements can create more opportunity.

Meta generally recommends Advantage+ placements because the delivery system can choose from a wider set of available placements and allocate impressions where it expects to achieve the campaign objective efficiently.

That flexibility can be valuable.

Restricting a campaign to one favourite placement may remove lower-cost or higher-performing opportunities before the campaign has had a chance to test them.

Manual placements still have a role when there is a real constraint. A format may not work in a particular environment. A campaign may have a deliberate channel requirement. Brand, legal or user-experience considerations may make a placement inappropriate.

The point is to exclude for a reason, not from habit.

Do not confuse placement performance with placement quality.

One placement may report a cheaper cost per click while another produces stronger conversion value. Reels may create large volumes of attention but behave differently from Feed. Audience Network can generate engagement patterns that need to be read in the context of the campaign objective.

We therefore judge placements against the outcome, not only the surface metric.

If the goal is sales, look at sales. If the goal is qualified leads, look at lead quality where possible. If the goal is awareness, evaluate reach, frequency and the relevant awareness signals.

Placement reporting is useful for diagnosis. Look for consistent patterns over a meaningful period, not isolated cheap results. If a placement consumes budget without contributing to the intended outcome, investigate it. Broad delivery should be evidence-led, not unquestioned.

Creative should be adapted to the environment.

Vertical 9:16 video is important for immersive placements such as Reels and Stories. Feed can accommodate different ratios and often gives copy and visual information more room. Carousels can help when several products, features or steps need to be communicated.

This does not mean creating an entirely different campaign for every placement.

It means preparing a useful set of assets and using placement customisation where it adds value.

The first seconds matter even more in fast environments.

People do not enter Instagram or Facebook intending to watch your advert. The creative is competing with friends, creators, entertainment, news and everything else in the feed.

A logo reveal that takes four seconds before saying anything useful may be beautifully produced and commercially ineffective.

Lead with the product, problem, benefit or idea.

Design for sound on and sound off where practical. Keep important text readable. Respect safe zones. Make the brand identifiable without making the advert feel like a corporate title sequence.

At Net Age, we prefer broad placement opportunity combined with deliberate creative preparation.

The platform should have enough inventory to optimise. The user should still receive an ad that feels intentional in the space where they see it.

Before excluding a placement, ask whether the problem is really the placement or the asset. Then preview the ad across the environments you intend to use. If the message becomes cropped, hidden, slow or confusing, fix the creative before blaming delivery.
